final exam task of Introduction to Literary studies

This paper is about my analysis of film which I have watched on the first semester. The film which I’ll analyze here is “The Terminal’’. On the first part, I will analyze about the plot diagrams of  this film. According to a film, I can assume that the plot diagrams of this film are Introduction at first about the main character “Viktor Navorski” who was in the International Airport of John F. Kennedy (Introduction). He was at there because he wanted to go to New York for getting the signature of the most Legend Jazz “Benny Golson” as the message of his father. But, unfortunately, his passport is useless and he is denied entry into United States, and the same time he also can’t return to his native country due to a revolution, and he also able to speak little English  (Raising Action).
Because of that, he decided to stay in the airport as his residence until he can get the Visa. There, he did so many funny things. Day by day he always comes to the checking passport’s place. But, it still there is no development. His effort to get a Visa always be refused. So that, he had to stay at there for a long enough time. And his activities are controlled by the camera (Climax). In the airport, he had some friends ; Gupta, Enrique, and one other. He also meet with the  stewardess, Amelia. After he always meets with her, finally they became good friend. They always share together about their problems. Eventually, Amelia knew what problem Viktor has. So that, she said to Viktor that She would help him to get Visa (Falling Action). Amelia’s friend had succeed make a Visa to New York for Viktor. Amelia told it to Viktor, and Viktor was very happy to hear that. Finally, Viktor could go to New York. At New York, he directly visited the place which the Legend of Jazz “Benny Golson” always performs. He met with his father’s idol. He asked his signature. After that, he went back to his native country (Resolution).
On the second part, I will analyze about the archetypal elements. As long as the film started till the end, the setting of this film is always around of International Airport, John F. Kennedy. It showed some places there, such like restaurant, mall, bar, and the other luxurious places. So, I can say that here the archetypal setting is The Suburbia.  But, the airport is used dominant by the main character “Viktor Navorski” as the place for protecting himself as long as he stayed there. Therefore, the most suitable archetypal setting of this film called as The Castle. Then, a symbol of this film is an Airport (International Airport of John F. Kennedy). Because of at there as the place which always shows in the film. Then, I also will analyze the characters, especially of “ Viktor Navorski”. He is included of the characters “The Professor and The Best Friend.” Why is this so? the first, he is as the Professor because he able to use his intelligence (mind) to solve the problems. It proved when his passport is useless and he is denied entry into United States, he can handle them. He could live at the airport for a long enough time until finally he succeed go to New York. The second, he is as the Best Friend because he able to make a friendship as long as he stayed at the airport with Gupta, Enrique, Amelia, and another staffs in the airport.

On the last part, I will analyze about the conflict in this film. Well, after I watched the film carefully, I can conclude that the conflict in this film are ; 1). Man against himself, and 2). Man against man.  For the first point, man against himself mean the character had conflict with himself. It seems when he had to face with the bureaucrat “Frank Dixon”. While he is just able to speak little English. For the second point, man against man here mean the character had a conflict with another man, especially with the staffs of the airport. As long as he stayed at the airport, he was controlled by the camera. Mostly, the character against with “Frank Dixon” who always avoids him to go out from the airport. Thank you very much ^^
